Patricia McCafferty Walter, formerly of Hilton Head, died on
December 1, 2016 at her home in Mequon, Wisconsin after a brief illness.
Mrs. Walter was born March 21, 1929 in New Rochelle, NY;
daughter of the late Commander William J. McCafferty (US Navy) and the late Ann
Curry McCafferty. Mrs. Walter attended
Nazareth College and NYU, ultimately graduating from Parsons School of Design
in NYC in 1951 as an Interior Designer. She
continued her education at the College of Mount Saint Vincent over 20 years
later, obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in 1975, while raising 7 children.
She was predeceased in 2003 by her best friend and husband of
fifty years, C. Richard (Dick) Walter. She is survived by two sons; Mark
(Margy) Walter and Dr. Gregory (Janine) Walter, as well as four daughters;
Stephanie (Rich Gannon) Walter, Lisa (Chuck) Christiansen, Deirdre (John) Fahy,
and Tara (Jim) Elgass, She was predeceased by her daughter Valerie Walter of
Hilton Head. Mrs. Walter leaves behind
twelve beloved grandchildren, Angel (Joe) Farrell, Gregory (Christie) Walter
Jr., Jason and Avery Walter, Sean, Brian, Brendan and Stephen Fahy, Chelsea and
Ali Woodruff, and Erin and Alison Elgass, as well as 3 great-grandsons, Dash,
Hunter, and Andrew Farrell.
After living and raising their family in NY, Pat and her
husband Dick retired to Hilton Head in 1989. She was an active member of Holy
Family Catholic Church for 20 years where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Pat enjoyed a wide variety of artistic crafts
and hobbies, particularly rubber stamping.
She also was a gourmet cook who enjoyed taking cooking classes. When not entertaining or spending time with
family, Pat and Dick enjoyed traveling the world.
In 2009, Pat left Hilton Head due to illness and moved to
Wisconsin to be nearer to several of her children; however Hilton Head always
remained close to her heart.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday April 18 at 10am at Holy
Family Catholic Church, 24 Pope Ave. A
private burial will follow later in the day at the Columbarium at St. Francis
by the Sea, where Pat will have her final resting place beside her beloved
