Jack L. Gray, 83, of Hilton Head Island, SC peacefully passed away January 20 after battling pancreatic cancer with his wife of 57 years by his side. Born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI, he was the only child of Lawrence and Gladys Gray.
Jack served in the US Army before graduating from The University of Michigan with a Business degree. He then reconnected with his childhood friend, Joanne Fitzgerald. The two married and Jack was a loving, devoted, and adoring husband for nearly 58 years.
He worked almost 40 years at General Motors as a respected Personnel Director before retiring to Hilton Head Island where he enjoyed golfing, keeping up to date with technology and current events, and cheering on U of M with the local alumni group. He was a loyal friend to many who will miss his sense of humor.
Jack was admired by all and will be remembered as a proud, involved, and committed family man. His grandchildren knew him as strong, thoughtful, generous, warm and a jovial storyteller. Jack is survived by six children, Susan (Harry) Gray-Rodman of Howell, MI, Carol (Jeff) Ludwig of Elgin, IL, John (Cheryl) Gray of Frankenmuth, MI, Nancy (Patrick) Paige of Ann Arbor, MI, Michael Gray of Brighton, MI, Jackie (Alan) MacMillan of Glen Ellyn, IL. He was overjoyed with his 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will take place at The Golf Club at Indigo Run on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, Jack asked that you consider making a donation to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Michigan to honor his grandson, Justin Gray.
