Eileen Elizabeth Favata of Hilton Head, SC passed peacefully to eternal rest on March 9, 2017. She was beloved sister of Carol Ann Rahilly, devoted mother of David Favata, Suzanne Chaikowsky, Judith Hanley and Kara Favata and she was "Nana" to Sean, Kaitlyn, Connor, Stephanie, Michael, Brigid, Mary, Dominic and Maria.
Eileen was born in 1940 to Anne and Michael Rahilly in the Bronx, NYC. She moved upstate during high school to live with her grandparents after her mother and sibling developed polio. She was a junior with striking red hair, blue eyes and freckles. Dominick was a dark-haired, dark-eyed Italian who didn't stand a chance – he fell hard!
After HS Eileen worked and attended Fordham University in the evenings to obtain her degree in teaching. Dominick worked and used all of his money and some of his sister's to take the train into the city to visit Eileen every weekend. They began their 48-year journey of marriage on April 28, 1962 and the past seven years since Dominick's passing have been her toughest.
In early years, she and Dominick would enjoy what they called "Saturday Night Dinner" dates at home. It was during this time that Eileen honed her culinary skills. She experimented with recipes from Julia Child, Gourmet and Bon Appetite. She became such an excellent chef that it was hard to eat out because her creations were better!
Later in life, Eileen and Dominick moved around the country for Dominick's work with what Eileen referred to as "Corporate America". They nurtured lasting friendships in Bethlehem PA, Dallas TX, Grand Rapids MI, and Baltimore MD before ultimately reaching their dream of retiring to Hilton Head Island. Eileen loved the ocean and Dominick loved to golf. They were fortunate to travel to Ireland with life-long friends, to Italy with family and many other memorable trips.
Eileen was as Irish as the day was long. As a Catholic she was devout, as a friend she was fiercely loyal, as an adversary she was stubborn to the core and as a Mom and Nana she was intensely loving and devoted.
