Stanley is a longtime veteran of the funeral business, having started while he was in high school in New York. He is a 1956 graduate of Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science in Syracuse, New York. He was licensed in the state of New York in 1958.
He served in the United States Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was the owner and operator of funeral homes in Cato and Weedsport, New York from 1962 to 1995, when he sold the business and subsequently moved to Hilton Head Island in 1996.
He was Town Justice in Cato for over 20 years and is a former member of the New York State Funeral Directors Association. He has been employed with the Island Funeral Home and Crematory as an embalmer since 2003.
Stanley and his wife, Anita, have been married for 52 years; have one son and two grandchildren.
